When did you stop believing in the crazy idea of government and all its trappings (such as voting)?A few years ago in seminary my philosophy professor turned me on to the ideas of libertarianism. I was your typical moral majority type conservative and began doing some reading. Recently, I was exposed to anarcho-capitalism.If we practice nonviolent communication, coupled with agorism, when do you think we'll see complete liberty (at least in a town or city)?Perhaps sometime past 2100

"Wes Bertrand" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Hey, Chad. I'm glad to hear of your reason for being otherwise occupied. :) Yet I'm sad about your experiences of tragedy during the last few months. I hope things have turned out ok. I realize that a lot of people look to religious ideas to find ...

"Chad Ressler" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Thanks for your comments Darrell. Sorry, I have not kept up with this...but....someone met a girl....LOL. I very much enjoy Wes' point of view and the interaction, though, I will admit that my level of intelligence as compared to Wes with regards ...

"Wes Bertrand" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Thanks for your input, Darrell. Glad you found the conversation profound too. :) As you know, subsequent to this discussion, I befriended online a voluntaryist parent who unschools his two children and yet also endorses the tenets of Mormonism ...

"Darrell" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".
Got to be the best discussion of religious faith and logical epistemology ever...sigh... I sure hope you follow up on those links, Chad, and everyone else reading, unless you are already familiar with the concepts. I find it helps to click and try ...

"Wes Bertrand" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Hi again, Chad. I appreciate your extensive response. Like WW, I too am quite concerned about the mental welfare of kids who are taught to believe in arbitrary postulates, which include anything "supernatural" and in defiance of what can be ...

"Weed Wackr" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Hi Chad, You said that you became a Christian based your examination of the evidence associated with the gospels, yet you disagree that your own mind is the highest authority to distinguish fact from fiction. So you've used the authority of your ...

"Wes Bertrand" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Hi again, Chad. Thanks for the in-depth reply. Lots of ideas to address here once again. The doctrine about human nature called "Total Depravity" (taken from St. Augustine, btw) is true in one sense: humans are indeed self-interested and pay no ...

"Weed Wackr" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Hi Chad, I'd like to know more about your basis for your oppostion to Gay marriage. If it has a strictly biblical basis would you be willing to cite the core passages that you derive it from?

"Chad Ressler" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Wes, Thank you for your comments and questions. First, I don't think that Emerson understood Calvinism's doctrine of Total Depravity. That doctrine doesn't teach that the "self is bad" per se or that man is as bad or depraved as he could ...

"Wes Bertrand" commented on Chad Ressler's Blog "Christians and Libertarianism".Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way on the site's backend to retrieve what's been deleted. I suspect that Chad didn't copy it elsewhere, so its loss is frustrating. Hopefully we can pick up from what's remembered.

About
I work for a Community Action Agency helping people on welfare get jobs (though I will be unemployed with the next budget :-) ) I am a former Pastor and have a M.A. in Theological Studies from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. I really got into Libertarianism listening to the Libertarian Solution podcast by Nick Coons, Jim Ianuzzo, and Richard Sutton. Nick and I communicate off and on via Facebook and he has turned me on to the idea of anarcho-capitalism, but I cannot yet make an intellectually honest commitment to it until I have studied the issue more for myself.
